About Us
Building Bridges for Inclusive Development
The Banjara Tribal Development Organisation (BTDO) is a community-driven nonprofit dedicated to uplifting the lives of Banjaras, Chenchu, rural poor, and other marginalized communities in Andhra Pradesh. Founded with the vision of bringing dignity, opportunity, and equality to those left behind, BTDO works across multiple domains including social work, education, cultural activities, and daycare centers.
At BTDO, we believe that true development is inclusive development—when the marginalized are brought into the mainstream with dignity and pride. Together, with the support of volunteers, partners, and well-wishers, we are creating meaningful change and shaping a brighter future for generations to come.
Our Story
From Margins to Mainstream – A Journey of Hope, Culture, and Empowerment
The Banjara Tribal Development Organisation (BTDO) was born out of a deep concern for the lives of the most vulnerable communities in Andhra Pradesh — the Banjaras, the Chenchu tribes, the rural poor, and other marginalized groups who have been left behind in every aspect of life.
For generations, these communities have faced social exclusion, poverty, and a lack of access to education, healthcare, and basic opportunities. While the world has moved forward, they have continued to struggle for recognition and dignity. It was in response to this reality that BTDO came into being — with a mission to champion the cause of the ignored, uplift the destitute, and bring hope to those who have been deprived of their rightful place in society.
Our Beginnings
What started as a small initiative to help a few families in Prakasam district has today grown into a dynamic platform for change. Our founders recognized that upliftment cannot be achieved in isolation — it requires a holistic approach that integrates education, cultural pride, social work, and community development.
The organisation began in the small town of Yerra Gonda Palem, Prakasam district, with limited resources but unlimited determination. At first, the goal was simple yet powerful: to bring smiles to the faces of children and hope to the hearts of families.
With community participation, we began by setting up:
- Daycare centers so that working parents could leave their children in safe, nurturing spaces.
- Education support programs so that no child would be denied the right to learn due to poverty.
- Cultural initiatives to revive and preserve the unique traditions of the Banjaras and Chenchus, ensuring that identity would not be sacrificed at the altar of modernization.
What began as small steps soon evolved into a movement of transformation.
Our Growth
Over time, BTDO expanded its focus into multiple domains:
- Education for All – ensuring that every child, regardless of their background, has access to quality learning.
- Daycare Centers – creating safe, nurturing spaces where children of working parents are cared for and educated.
- Cultural Activities – preserving and promoting the rich heritage of Banjara and tribal communities while instilling pride in their identity.
- Social Work Initiatives – supporting the poor and marginalized with welfare programs, awareness drives, and livelihood support.
- Community Development – empowering villages with programs that promote self-reliance, skill-building, and participation in the mainstream economy.
Our Impact
Through tireless efforts, we have touched the lives of hundreds of families, creating pathways for children to attend school, for women to feel empowered, and for communities to celebrate their cultural roots while embracing modern opportunities.
Our story is not just about charity — it is about empowerment, dignity, and transformation. It is about helping people believe in their worth, realize their potential, and step forward with confidence into the larger society.
Our Promise for Tomorrow
The journey is far from over. As long as inequality exists, as long as one child is left without education, or one family without hope, our work will continue.
We dream of a future where every Banjara, every tribal child, every marginalized person is seen, heard, and supported. A future where communities stand strong, proud of their culture, empowered by education, and confident in their role in shaping India’s tomorrow.
This is our story — a story of hope, resilience, and relentless commitment to uplift those who need it the most. And we invite you to be a part of it.

The Seeds of a Dream
Every movement begins with a story. The Banjara Tribal Development Organisation (BTDO) was born from the pain of exclusion and the vision of inclusion. For decades, the Banjaras, Chenchus, and other tribal and rural communities of Andhra Pradesh lived on the fringes of society, unseen and unheard. Despite their rich cultural heritage, resilience, and spirit, they were denied access to basic human rights — quality education, healthcare, social recognition, and equal opportunities.
The struggle of these communities was not simply about poverty. It was about lost dignity, forgotten identity, and systematic neglect. It was about children walking miles barefoot without ever reaching a classroom. It was about women with boundless strength who were never given a chance to lead. It was about elders who carried generations of wisdom but found their voices drowned out in the noise of progress.
It was in response to this reality that BTDO was formed — not as an institution of charity, but as a beacon of empowerment, dignity, and hope.
The Path of Growth
As word spread, more communities came forward. BTDO grew into a bridge between the marginalized and the mainstream, ensuring that those once forgotten would now have the tools to thrive.
Our work began to span across five core pillars:
- Education for All – Building classrooms of hope where children learn, dream, and grow.
- Daycare Centers – Offering protection, nutrition, and love to the little ones of working families.
- Cultural Activities – Showcasing Banjara music, dance, art, and heritage to strengthen identity and pride.
- Social Work Initiatives – Running awareness drives, health campaigns, women’s empowerment programs, and welfare outreach.
- Community Development – Enabling self-sufficiency through livelihood programs, skills training, and rural development schemes.
Each of these pillars became not just projects, but lifelines of change for the people we serve.
Our Impact: From Shadows to Light
Over the years, BTDO has transformed hundreds of lives — children who once dropped out of school are now graduates, young girls who were destined for silence now speak with confidence, and communities once resigned to invisibility now celebrate their culture with pride.
Our impact is not measured in numbers alone. It is seen in the spark in a child’s eyes when they learn to read, in the relief of a mother who knows her child is safe at daycare, in the songs of Banjara women reviving cultural festivals, and in the villages that now see themselves as part of India’s larger story.
We are proud that what once seemed impossible is now becoming a reality: bringing marginalized voices into the heart of mainstream society.
Our Challenges and Resilience
The road has not been easy. Poverty, lack of resources, societal discrimination, and the vast needs of the communities we serve often weigh heavily. But every challenge has only deepened our resolve.
We have learned that transformation requires more than programs — it requires patience, compassion, and unshakable belief in human potential. With every obstacle, we have grown stronger, and with every setback, we have found new determination to press forward.
A Collective Journey
BTDO’s journey is not ours alone. It is built by the hands of volunteers, community leaders, supporters, and well-wishers who believe in our mission. It is shaped by the courage of the people we serve — their strength, resilience, and determination inspire us daily.
We invite you to walk this journey with us. Every contribution, every voice, and every act of compassion brings us one step closer to a brighter tomorrow.
